Marina BMP Documentation

1. Getting started

Marina BMP runs entirely in your browser. There are two ways to use it, and you can move between them at any time.

Try for 30 Days Free

Choose Try for 30 Days Free on the home page and create your account — name, email, a password and your date of birth (accounts are for adults; the date is checked on your device and never sent to us), no card. You get everything in Premium for 30 days, including your marina on every device you sign in to. Settings → Your account shows how many days are left.

When the trial ends nothing is locked or deleted. Your account continues as Free and your marina keeps working on your device. Subscribe any time if you want Premium back.

The first time you open it

• Explore a sample marina — 24 berths, bookings and six months of history to try every feature. Start my own marina clears it in one click.
• Bring your existing data — import a spreadsheet or a file from another system.
• Start from scratch — add your docks and berths.

Prefer no account at all?

Choose Use on this device without an account. Every marina feature works; your data simply stays in this browser. Marina BMP saves a safety copy every day, and you can download your whole marina whenever you like (see Your data).

2. Berths & docks

A berth is the core record. Docks are simply the groups berths belong to — create a dock by naming it on a berth or in Bulk Add; it appears everywhere as soon as one berth uses it.

Creating a single berth

Press + Assign Berth, give it a number and dock, and save. The berth is created and placed on the map automatically, in the centre of the visible area, where you can drag it into position.

Finding the right berth

The filter bar narrows the list or map by status, length and dock, and by amenities: Wi-Fi, Water, Electricity and Fuel. Turn on several and you see only berths that have all of them. Set a berth’s amenities in its editor.

Hints

Hover over (or tab to) any icon or unfamiliar control and a short hint explains what it does.

Removing docks

Bulk Delete Dock (beside Bulk Add) removes one or more whole docks after showing you how many berths and map slots will go. Completed stays are preserved in berth history first, so revenue reporting is never affected. Administrators only.

3. Bulk Add berths

For setting up a marina quickly. Press Bulk Add and fill in the form:

• Dock — choose an existing dock or pick “+ New dock…” and type a new letter or name.
• Number of berths — type the figure, or use the − / + buttons.
• Starting number — defaults to one past the highest number already used on that dock.
• Prefix, suffix and digits — produce A-01, A-001, Pier-A-1 or plain 101 as you prefer.

A live preview shows exactly what will be created, for example Dock A → A-01 through A-25 · 25 berths will be created. Numbers that already exist are detected before anything is written and are skipped rather than overwritten. Nothing is created until you confirm.

Map placement (orientation, slot size, spacing, starting corner) is available under Map placement options.

4. The marina map

Switch to map view to see the marina laid out visually, colour-coded by status. Drag a berth to move it, drag its corner handle to resize, and drag dock labels to reposition them. Click any berth to open it.

• Up to 11 dock zones and roughly 300 map slots are supported comfortably.
• Newly created berths always appear centrally rather than off-screen, and never disturb positions you have already arranged.
• A background image (a photo or plan of your marina) can be added, scaled and faded in the Map Editor.

5. Smart berth allocation

Press Suggest, enter the vessel’s length and optionally its draft, and Marina BMP proposes the best available berths — only those that actually fit, ranked tightest-fit first so large berths are not wasted on small boats. The top result is marked best fit. Berths with a known water depth shallower than the draft are excluded. Pressing Assign opens that berth with the status and vessel length already filled in.

6. Arrivals, stays & departures

In the berth editor, Clear Assignment, Check In and Departured are always shown side by side when they apply — on small screens they wrap onto a new line rather than overlapping.

Check in

When a reserved vessel arrives, press ✓ Check In — on the berth itself or with one tap from the worker panel. The berth becomes Occupied and the action is recorded with the staff member’s name.

Departured

When the customer has paid and left, press ✓ Departured. This frees the berth immediately for the next customer and permanently preserves the payment: the completed stay moves into berth history and continues to count in daily, monthly and yearly revenue, the monthly report and financial analytics. A departure never deletes or alters money already earned.

7. Worker mode

A focused view for dockside staff. Enter it from the header; staff enter their name so every action is attributed.

• A live clock and a “today” strip: arrivals due, departures due, berths free.
• Arriving / to check in, Departing / due and Currently staying lists, each with one-tap actions.
• Alerts for overstays and expiring stays.
• Export My Day produces a file the office can import.

Workers can check vessels in and out because those are routine dockside tasks. Destructive actions — clearing an assignment, deleting berths or docks, bulk operations, exporting all data — remain administrator-only, and every worker change is written to a tamper-evident log with a reason, a timestamp and the worker’s name.

8. Dashboard & reports

The dashboard opens on live figures for the marina: total berths, occupancy, availability, today’s revenue, the month to date, departures due and alerts. Tabs cover Overview, Monthly Report, Fleet Status, Financials, Alerts, Audit Log, Workers and the Yearly Report.

• Dock utilisation is colour-coded — green, brass, orange, red — so a busy dock is obvious at a glance.
• Worker performance shows jobs completed today, this month and this year, berths touched and revenue handled per staff member.
• A 12-month revenue chart and occupancy trends are included in the yearly view.

9. Printing

Print or save any dashboard view as PDF straight from the browser. The print layout is built for paper: compact tables, repeating column headers when a table continues onto the next page, no rows split across a page break, and interface elements removed. A typical full dashboard print is around a third shorter than it was before 3.9, with no information dropped.

10. Importing & migrating

Press Migrate in the toolbar (or Import Your Existing Data on the home page) to bring in an existing marina. The flow is Import → Map columns → Review → Migrate.

Accepted files

• CSV and TSV, including semicolon and tab delimited exports
• Excel workbooks (.xlsx)
• JSON, including a Marina BMP export

Column names do not have to match

Headings used by other marina systems are recognised automatically — Slip # becomes the berth number, Pier the dock, Boat Owner the customer, LOA the vessel length, Draught the draft, and so on. Every mapping is a dropdown you can correct before anything is written.

What the review step tells you

Berths ready to import, customers and vessels found, duplicate rows inside the file, berths that already exist in Marina BMP, rows without a berth number, missing docks, invalid email addresses and unreadable dates.

Safety

• A backup is taken automatically before the first record is written.
• Existing berths are never overwritten — matching numbers are skipped and reported.
• Skipped rows can be exported as CSV with the reason for each, fixed, and re-imported.
• Every import is listed in the import history and can be undone; the undo removes only the berths that import created.
• Fields Marina BMP has no column for — customer company, vessel type, registration — are preserved in the berth’s notes rather than discarded.

Dates in day-first, month-first, ISO and Excel serial formats are understood, as are comma decimals such as 12,5.

11. Your data

Your marina belongs to you. Everything about it is in one place: Your data in the toolbar.

Moving to another computer

1. Choose Your data → Download file.
2. Copy the file to the other computer — email, USB stick or cloud drive.
3. On the other computer, open Marina BMP and choose Your data → Choose file.

Your berths, map, history and revenue all come with it. Premium does this automatically.

Safety copies

Marina BMP saves a copy of your data on this device once a day, keeping the last three automatic copies and up to five you make yourself. Restoring one takes a click. These copies live on this device; to keep a copy elsewhere, download your file or use Premium.

Reports for spreadsheets

CSV and Excel (.xlsx) exports of monthly and financial reports are available from the dashboard, and open cleanly in Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets.

12. The Marina BMP file

A Marina BMP file is ordinary JSON — readable in any text editor, and yours to keep. Version 3 (Marina BMP 4.8 and later) contains:

Lengths are stored in metres and dates as YYYY-MM-DD. Files from earlier versions (format 2.0) still open; they simply don’t contain history, because earlier versions didn’t export it.

13. Settings

Settings, worker mode, the map arranger, theme and language live in the ••• menu in the toolbar. Long panels such as Settings scroll, so everything — including the Danger Zone at the bottom — is always reachable.

14. Offline & storage

Marina BMP is offline-first. Every core operation — creating berths, assigning vessels, checking in and out, reports, exports — works with no internet connection at all. Account users sync when connectivity returns.

15. Your account, trial and Premium

Everything about your account is in Settings → Your account: who you’re signed in as, your plan (with days left while you’re on the trial), your email preference, and managing or starting your subscription.

What Premium costs

€100 for your first paid month, then €10 less every month you stay subscribed, down to €10 a month from month 10. Settings → Your account shows which month of your streak you are in and what next month will cost.

• First paid month: €100. Charged when you subscribe — after your free trial, if you choose to.
• Each month you pay costs €10 less the next month: €90, €80 … €20 in month 9.
• From month 10: €10 a month, for as long as the subscription continues. It never goes back up while your streak lasts.
• Your streak counts the consecutive months you have paid for on your current subscription. Settings → Your account shows it, with this month’s price and next month’s price as confirmed with Polar.
• A failed payment doesn’t end anything by itself: Polar retries it, and Premium and your streak continue meanwhile. If a retry succeeds, nothing changes.
• Cancelling stops the next renewal. Premium stays on until the end of the month you’ve paid for, you’re not charged again, and nothing you’ve already paid is lost. Until that month ends you can resume and keep your streak.
• If your subscription ends — cancelled and the paid month is over, or a payment Polar couldn’t collect after its retries — your streak ends. Subscribing again later starts at €100, and the monthly reductions are earned again from there.
• The 30-day free trial costs nothing and never turns into a paid plan by itself.

Subscribing

1. Choose Upgrade to Premium (Settings) or Subscribe (home page).
2. If you’re not signed in, you create your account first.
3. You continue to secure checkout with your account’s email already filled in. Payment is handled by Polar.

Account first, then payment: this keeps one account and one subscription together, so a subscription can never end up under a different email.

What decides your plan

Your plan is checked with our server, not your browser, and re-checked while you work. If Premium ends — a cancellation, a failed renewal, or the trial finishing — syncing pauses and you’re told clearly. Your data on the device is never touched. If you cancel, Premium continues to the end of the month you’ve paid for.

Emails from us

If you tick the box when you sign up, we may send a short note about Premium at most about every two months — never during your trial and never while you’re subscribed. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can switch it off in Settings.

Deleting your account

Settings → Danger Zone → Delete my account. Type your email to confirm. Your login and everything stored in your account are removed permanently. Your subscription record is removed too; Polar keeps its own invoices as tax law requires. If you’re paying, Marina BMP cancels your subscription with Polar first, so you can’t be charged for an account that no longer exists; if Polar can’t be reached, nothing is deleted and you can try again. The marina, settings and backups on this device are erased as well, so download a copy first if you want one.

Only your marina is synced — not the safety copies on each device, which stay where they were made.

16. Accessibility & shortcuts

Both themes meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast for normal text, every control has an accessible name, focus is always visible and the interface is fully keyboard navigable. Reduced-motion preferences are respected.

17. Troubleshooting

A new berth does not appear on the map

Fixed in 4.4 — new berths are always given a map position. If you are on an older deployment, update to 5.0.

The app looks half-loaded or controls are missing

Your browser is probably blocking site storage. From 4.5 the app handles this and tells you; allow site data for marinabmp.app for full persistence.

My figures look wrong after maintenance

Out-of-service berths are deliberately excluded from occupancy. A stay on a maintenance berth is counted once, when you confirm the departure.

I moved computers and my revenue history is missing

Files made before 4.8 didn’t include past stays. Download a fresh file from the original computer with 4.8 or later and open that one.

I can’t reach the bottom of Settings

Fixed in 4.9 — long panels scroll, with Save and Cancel kept in view.

Cloud sync is not running

Check that you signed in with the same email you paid with, and that the subscription is active. The app reports the state rather than failing silently.

Excel will not open my export

Use the .xlsx export from the dashboard. CSV is also available for any tool.

18. What changed in 5.6

Release 5.6 brings back the loyalty price: €100 for the first paid month and €10 less for every consecutive month, down to €10 a month from month 10 for as long as you stay. A payment Polar can’t collect, or a subscription that ends, resets the streak, and a new subscription starts again at €100. The price for each next month is confirmed with Polar and checked daily. Subscriptions started under 5.5 keep the 5.5 terms. Release 5.5 set the Premium price to €100 for the first month and €10 a month after that, shows the full terms before you pay and what cancelling means before you manage your subscription, and confirms a payment with Polar before saying anything about it. Release 5.4 fixes checkout (Upgrade now opens Polar reliably and shows clearly what is happening), account deletion (it works even after a long session, and cancels a renewing subscription first), and sign-in that could silently expire; adds Inter and EB Garamond type, smoother motion, numbers that glide to their new values, and an optional animated film-grain background you can switch off. Release 5.3 introduced streak pricing. Release 5.2 adds an age check at sign-up (adults only; your date of birth never leaves your device), a clearer cookie and storage choice, a Cookie Policy, business details, and serves fonts and libraries from our own site so visiting sends nothing to other companies. Release 5.1 made dark the default look, sends Upgrade straight to secure checkout, adds Upgrade and Return to Website to the account bar, shows existing members “Return to Your Marina”, and makes Delete my account erase everything. Release 5.0 was a stability release: nothing you rely on changes, but everything underneath is cleaner and safer. Subscriptions now update reliably and in the right order, checkout is locked to your account, and account data is better protected. 4.9 brought the 30-day Premium trial, account-first subscribing, account control in Settings and the Bone/White look; 4.8 was about trust and calm: a complete file format so moving computers keeps your history and revenue, a first-run welcome with a sample marina, one place for everything to do with your data, a quieter toolbar, and one consistent look for every control.
